Family News

Melinda Weston White Family
Ron and Melinda recently had the opportunity to substitute teach an early morning seminary class for local high school students. This religion class is sponsored by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and the course of study is the Old Testament. The class meets at 5:45am!!! It was a wonderful opportunity to start the day with enthusiastic teens and gave us a real appreciation of the examples of dedicated Christian youth.

Suzanne  has been busy completing her latest painting. After one art class, she currently studies by copying the paintings of artists that she admires. Suzanne's newest painting is her version of a Thomas Kincaide painting. Suzanne is also fostering 3 kittens for Catz Jazz, an Austin area rescue group. Unfortunatley, there is always an urgent need to foster black kittens during the weeks just before and after Halloween to protect them against atrocities. This little black male kitten and his two black and white sisters will be safe and loved until they find permanent homes. Nathan has had the opportunity to volunteer as one of the Watch DOGS (Dads of Great Students) at Keely and Corrinna's school a few days this year. He gets to spend the whole day at school helping out in various classrooms, and even having lunch and recess with each of the girls. The girls' friends all get excited when he comes to school because he plays football with them at recess :) Christina has accepted a position as a substitute aide for the special needs classrooms at Giddens Elementary. The best part is that she will be working at the same school that Keely and Corrinna attend! This will be a perfect fit for this school year. Christina will be on the same school schedule as her youngest children; it will be flexible enough to work with her schedule; and, it will be invaluable experience to add to her graduate school application next year!  Alicia has been busy working as the Student Director of her school play, The Three Musketeers that will be opening this week. She is continuing to gain experience in everything from helping to build sets to practicing lines with the actors. The days have been long but I know that it will be worth it when the curtain goes up! Nicholas is now an official teenager and has already passed up his mom in height! He was also selected to participate in the Duke Talent Search program, and will be taking the SAT as a 7th grader! Zachary is enjoying middle school and has joined the school band. His instrument is the trumpet and he has already earned the coveted spot of playing in the GOLD (first) row! Keely and Corrinna were delighted to find that they both got parts in their school play, Beauty and the Beast, Jr, that will open in January. Keely is playing the part of a milkmaid and Corrinna will be a egg timer. This play sounds so cute that I can hardly wait to see it! James is putting in long hours as he works full time as a physical therapist and continues his course load for his fellowship. James' fellowship specializes in orthopedic and manual (hands on) physical therapy. As part of his course requirements, James has just completed teaching a class on managing the disorders of the upper extremities. He had 28 students in his class room and 16 online students from across the country. James has also recently celebrated turning 30 AGAIN! Joanna has recently accepted a job at an opthalmology clinic. This is a new adventure in nursing! Jo has already learned new procedures to add to her already extensive resume. Jonathan is very excited to get the cast off his arm from a recent biking accident! I am sure that he appreciated the many autographs but, now that the cast is off, he is back on the soccer field! Johnny is a versatile player and can play fullback and guard the goal as well as play forward and score as he proved in Saturdays game. Jonathan is in third grade and studying very hard and practicing for the UIL spelling bee. Johnny must pass three seperate tests to be able to participate. He has passed one of the tests....only two to go! Olivia recently celebrated her fifth birthday and is enjoying her preschool class at her daycare. Livi enjoys dressing up and playing princess, reading, and coloring. She is so ready for kindergarten next year! Madalyn is now 2 1/2 and is almost fully potty trained. Maddie is learning everything so quickly that we have to admit that she is no longer a baby! Livi and Maddie are enrolled in a gymnastics class in creative movement. Their favorite part of class is the trampoline! James and Joanna also have a new addition to the family. They have adopted a German Shephard puppy, "Zeus"! He is a rather LARGE puppy (weighed in at 58 pounds at his 8 month check up!) but very smart, loveable, and a beautiful dog. He fits right in! Dave and Amanda are still waiting for baby girl to arrive...the due date was November 2nd. Three year old Michael is playing on his first soccer team! The "Blue Jets" is a team of 3 & 4 year olds. The coaches greatest challenge is to make sure that the team is kicking the ball in the right direction and to discourage the team members from sommersaulting on the field during a game! By the way,Michael calls his shinguards "robot shin gliders". Jared is nearly two and is not happy that he cannot be on the field with his brother! Jared knows that he has a little sister that will soon join the family. He points to his mommy's tummy and signs baby...and then hugs and kisses Amanda's tummy. We hope he still is that excited about his sister when the baby comes home!
Eddie Weston Family

Eddie is the proud owner of a sporty 2007 Shelby GT Mustang. This car is a 5 speed and is considered a fast track classic car.  Eddie was surprised at how much attention this car receives. He has unexpected visitors to see it and other people asking for rides. Recently, parents of a 8 year old boy asked Eddie if he would take their son for a ride around the block. The only problem was that once the ride was over, the boy would not get out of the car! Eddie has been has made two recent trips with his R-Vision C-class motor home. His first visit was to see Gary and Vicky Bolen in Golconda,Illinois. His most recent visit was to see Timmy and Jo Riggs and their sons, Tyler (15) and Trenton (13). The Riggs live in Popular Bluff Missouri. Both visits were so enjoyable that Eddie is considering a trip to Austin, Texas! Eddie joined Benny and Jan for their monthly trip to the Lighthouse Homeless Shelter. They and other church volunteers from the Cornerstone Community Church in Marion spend time encouraging and helping the homeless people/families that have no where else to turn for help...or for hope. Kerrie has recently had more adventures! She flew to Orlanda for Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studio...she had a scary good time. Then, it was off to Fort Lauderdale to visit good friends. This past week, Kerrie was off again! This time, she went to Phoenix, Arizona to visit friends from college. While there, she had the opportunity to explore Sedona, a picturesque town in the Red Rock Country. From there, Kerrie travled up into the mountains to the small town of Jerome. The views there are spectacular! Establised in the 1800's, it is now the home to wineries and an very old and reportedly haunted copper mine! Kerrie's next trip will be to San Francisco! She will be joining another good friend to celebrate his birthday. While there, Kerrie plans to explore the city and, hopefully, go sightseeing to Alcatraz....she tells me that getting a picture of her behind bars will be a "must"! By the time Kerrie gets home, it will be time to get ready to move into her new house. She has packing on her list....do you need boxes???? Todd and his finance, Dre, are keeping busy with work and trying to keep up with the three children! Todd keeps busy as the owner/operator of "Inside Out Automotive" and Dre is attending school for her nursing degree.
Jacob is now in fourth grade and doing extremely well. Todd recently attended a parent teacher conference last week and was a proud dad when he heard that Jacob has made the all "A" honor roll! Congratulations Jacob! Jacob has just completed soccer season and is looking forward to basketball in January. Dre's daughters are growing up as well. Jaedyn is now four and already thinks that she is ready for school next year! Aubrey is two and is starting to learn about using the potty. Good luck with that! Todd and family have recently adopted a puppy from the Humane Soceity. He tells me that he has never wanted a pitbull, but that is just they got! The puppy, "Cupcake", is a very good and intelligent dog, and everyone loves her.
Gary Weston Family
Nina, her husband, Dr. Wayne Hodge, and his cousin, Dr. Steve Hodge, have returned from a medical mission to Romania in early October. Volunteering to help the underprivileged is a work of love, dedication, and sacrifice for this family. The team worked from a church across the street from the hosptial in Muldova. Wayne and Steve saw every patient that came each day while Nina acted as the pharmacist by sorting and distributing the donated medical supplies. Sometimes the work is discouraging. Wayne and Steve cannot order medical tests. They are often limited to helping as they can and giving medical advice. Nina is always touched by the friendly and grateful people that they serve. The conditions that this people survive in is so much different from the life that we know here in the US. At the local hospital, the patients are only visited by a doctor once a week. Any food that the patients have is supplied by their own families. The church donates bananas as often as they can to help assure that the patients have at least something to eat. Nina tells me that it takes 23 hours of travel to reach Romania...that sounds exhausting! Richie still lives in Granite City, Illinois. Although he receives disability, Richie works as often as he can. He is a general carpenter and specializes in interior work. Richie enjoyed Derek's junior and senior year of high school when Derek lived with him. But children have a way of growing up much too quickly! Derek is now 19 and independent with a job and an apartment (with a roommate) in Park Hill, Missouri. Derek is currently working at a 7-11 but plans to seek employement in corrections when he is 21. Heather recently turned 14 and is in 8th grade. This lovely young lady lives in Arnold, Missouri, and attends the same school that Richie did when he was growing up. Richie, Derek, and Heather joined Richie's mother, Sheri, and her husband, Andy, for a trip to Silver Dollar City in the early fall. Everyone had a great time! Richie tells me that he has quit smoking! He is now on week 7 without a cigarette. Good for YOU!!! Brandon, Rachel and baby Weston were able to spend two weeks visiting family in early September. Although the flight was nearly 14 hours, Weston was a very good traveler and did not cry one time! During their visit, Rachel hosted a party in Paducah for the family to meet the newest addition to the family. Eddie, Kerrie, Benny, Jan, Courtney, Noah, and Emma enjoyed the evening....and, Rachel's candy buffet.

Brandon and Rachel also were able to slip away for a weekend in Chicago. They had a wonderful trip and Brent and Elizabeth were happy to have more time with Weston! Weston had his four month check up when they returned home from their vacation. He is growing quickly! Weston weighed in at 17 pounds and already has two teeth. Brandon is working on the big island now...12 hours a day for 6 days a week! Rachel and Weston take the 45 minute flight to see him on Fridays and fly back on Tuesday mornings. This is the best solution for them to make sure that they have time as a family. Brent is now the Vice President and CFO of Precision Steel and ,also, Calx Resources! When his parent company opened a rock quarry, he was appointed as the vice president and CFO of this new company as well. Brent is working much longer hours but is gaining some invaluable experience. Elizabeth has also received a promotion at work! In July, she was appointed the project manager for a 1.2 BILLION dollar project that her company has contracted with the Department of Energy. Elizabeth says that she is gaining very valuable experience as well. During all of her hard work on this project, Elizabeth has had to have carpal tunnel surgery on her right hand but, thankfully, she is healing very quickly. Dalton will soon be 13 and is in the 7th grade. He has surpassed his mom in height already! He is a very good student, but his mom is most proud of his wonderful heart and good manners. Dalton recently played in the semi-final game of the state football championships in Lexington, Kentucky! He plays the position of first team cornerback for the Lone Oak Purple Flashes (their logo is a purple bold of lightening) football team. This was the teams only loss of the season. Congratualtions Dalton!

Carter is now 4 years old and in Pre-K. He is active in Awana's at church and has a number of patches for memorizing Bible verses. Carter also plays soccer and scored 4 goals in a recent game! But, what Carter is most known for is his sweet heart and entertaining personality. He explained to Elizabeth that when their minature Yorkie turns seven, she will become a German Shephard! (Maybe he can come to Texas and play with "Zeus"!)
Benny Weston Family
Benny and Jan enjoyed a vacation to Macinac Island, Michigan. The weather was cool and pleasant. They visited the Creation Museum, featuring movies, displays, and paintings that inspired. They also visited the Football Hall of Fame. All in all, it was the kind of relaxing vacation that everyone needs! Benny also keeps busy driving the church bus when needed for various events. He drives the youth to summer camp and is currently driving the basketball team from Christian Unity High School in Herrin to their tournaments in Pinkneyville. Benny will also be driving passengers on Sunday evening to the "Trunk or Treat" activity sponsored by Cornerstone Community Church in Marion. This is one of the churches biggest outreach events. Benny tells me that his church will have games, a hayride, petting zoo, and food for the attendees. The church is expecting about 3,800 people to attend! Like so many of our families, Rylan and Ashley are certainly examples of busy parents! Rylan is working for Frontier Communications. During the more than ten years he has been employed at the company, Rylan has gained experience in both the cable and construction departments of the business. Ashley is working at the VA Hospital in Marion. She is employed as a clerk in the anti-coag clinic and helps co-ordinate with the nurses to be sure that all of the patients receive the care that they need. Ethan is now an 8th grader! When he is not busy with school work and playing defense for his soccer team, Ethan practices his guitar. He is very talented young man. Ryley is in 5th grade and also keeps super busy. She participates in a jazz class; gymnasitcs; soccer; and, is now considering trying out for a play in December. The family also includes their male Yorkie-poo, "Wyatt"; a new addition, a female Yorkie, "Bella"; and, their female cat, "Fergie". Now, if Rylan and Ashley can just keep up with four weekends in a row of soccer tournaments with Ethan and Ryley, they might find a second or two to relax. Andy and his business partner has started an investment company. The company is doing well and the benefits from working from home are many! The best part is that Andy no longer has a long commute and his hours are now much more flexible (which means more family time!). Courtney is continuing to volunteer on Tuesday nights at a local medical clinic for working people who cannot afford medical insurance but do not qualify for medicare. Courtney uses her nursing skills to help those in need. What a blessing that is to those she serves. Andy and Courtney celebated 9 years of marriage with a weekend trip to Nashville. (Thank you to Jan for caring for the two children!) Courtney is teaching her children in home school. And, both are doing exceptionally well. Noah is technically in first grade but already works on differnt subjects at a 2nd and 3rd grade level. He is very excited about participating in Upwards Basketball this year at church. Although Emma is in Pre-K this year, she is already learning to read and to add! Andy, Courtney and the children were also involved with "Marketplace A.D." Several churches in the community joined together to organize this Bbile school event. One street downtown was blocked off and set up to look like a street in Jerusalem at the time of Jesus. This street was complete with tents and shops and with information about the culture and daily life during that time period. What a wonderful event!

Chad has been working at Marion Ford since he was 16 years old! He started out in high school and is now a top salesman. Brittani is enjoying staying home with Ellie.

Ellie will be three in January but is already learning many things from Brittani to prepare her for kindergarten. Ellie is a joy to her parents and delights them with her sweet and bubbly personality. Ellie still enjoys hide and seek and LOVES to read books. Brittani tells me that her favorite character is Strawberry Shortcake. (That brought back a lot of memories of my girls!) Brandon and Megan have celebrated Brandon's birthday and their wedding anniversary with a trip to the northeastern states with stops in New York and Boston. But, the best part of the celebration might have been the 30th birthday party that Megan gave for Brandon before they left. Brandon was REALLY surprised! Megan's father has recently had his inauguration as President of Mountain Empire Community College in Virginia. Congratualtions!

Is it really you???????

The adventures that "Jiggs" had during World War II were usually on the battlefield.
However, during one of his assignments of duty, "Jiggs" was stationed in Virginia. This assignment as drill instructor was to train new recruits and teach them the skills and discipline that they would need in battle.
During this time in the states, he saw someone who looked familiar. To his utter astonishment, "Jiggs" realized that it was his own brother!
Edward Eugene "Jiggs" Weston, his older sister, Mary Pauline Weston, and his younger brother, Ralph Frederick "Tiny" Weston, had spent much of their childhood in an orphanage. And, because of the mistreatment, neglect, and poverty, they had all grown up much too quickly.
Mary Pauline was married at a very young age and the boys had found employment wherever they could as teenagers. The brothers traveled around to find what jobs they could....and, as time passed, they had lost touch.
"Jiggs" and "Tiny" had no idea that the other one was in the navy!
To commemorate their reunion and the joy of finding each other safe, they had their picture taken together. My dad always condsidered that day to be one of the happiest of his life.

Family Heritage

As with all families, we have a rich heritage bequeathed by our ancestors.
It has been an interesting journey to delve into our family's history and attempt to discover our roots.
To discover the countries that our ancestors originated from, I used the twelve surnames of Jiggs and Christine's great grandparents. They are: Weston; Skeen; Schaffer; Shore (Schor); Wiley (Wylie); Jackson; Shadowens (Chaudoin); Osborn; Aldred (Alteried); Lackey (Leckey); Stoddard; Chamberlain; Chapman; Richardson; Lackey (distant relative of first Lackey); and, Stringer. As you can see, some spellings of the names were changed when our family immigrated to the United States. The names on the roster was often written just as it was pronounced.
Using these names as our basis of analysis, our family is 38% English; 25% Scottish; 20% German; 15% Irish; 1% French; and 1% Cherokee.
The only real surprise to me in my research is that Tandy "Little Deer" Jackson, Sr, is a full blooded Cherokee!
We do know that "Little Deer" (pronounced Ah-ha-wee U-sdi-ee in Cherokee) was born in 1775 in Quallah Town, Cherokee Nation East, North Carolina. Because he married Elizabeth Smith, a white woman, on 12 April 1804 in Rutherford County, North Carolina, we do have records of his marriage licence and marriage bond.
"Little Deer" and Elizabeth settled in Tennessee and raised 7 children. However, when her husband drowned in the Sequatchie River in April of 1827, Elizabeth returned to live in the Cherokee Nation East.
Although our Cherokee ancestors managed to join the white mans world, most of "Little Deer" 's family did not. They were part of the march in the tragic "Trail of Tears" as the Cherokee Nation was forced to relocate.
There is still a lot to discover about our family heritage...the search continues!

Family News

Melinda Weston White Family:

Suzanne is the proud owner of a new bright red Chevy Cobalt. This retires her beloved 1998 blue Camaro.

Nathan and Christina have put their house on the market! Where they go when the house sells remains to be seen; Nathan is job hunting still and they are ready for a new adventure wherever that leads them!

Alicia had her first rescue while she was lifeguarding this summer!

Nicholas is now as tall as his mom...at age 12.

Keely was baptized on July 31st and was so excited to take this step in her life! We are so proud of her. You can read all about it on Nathan and Christina's family blog :)

Corrinna is excited to start Kindergarten in a few weeks...and Zachary is convinced that Christina should learn to play the Wii since everyone will be in school and she might be bored....but other than crying her eyes out and missing her kiddos, Christina is pretty sure that she will think of things to do :)  Zachary will be hitting a new milestone by starting middle school as well!

James is now in the upper 3% of the physical therapist profession by passing (on his first try!) his Board Certification in orthopedic physical therapy.

Joanna not only made an "A" in Organic Chemistry last semester but also made a 1100 on her GRE exam!

Jonathan received an award for making the "Solid Gold Honor Roll" for straight "A's" all school year.

James, Joanna, Jonathan, Olivia, and Madalyn joined Joanna's family for a fun vacation in Colorado in July. They really enjoyed the cooler temperatures in the mountains and the kids got to play in some snow!

Amanda and Dave are very excited to add a sweet little girl to their family in less than 3 months!

Dave is starting his last year of college in a few short weeks.

Amanda's new hobby has been gardening and preserving food. They are all stocked up with a years worth of jam and fruit and plans to do much more before the summer is over.

Eddie Weston Family

Eddie, Kerrie, and Todd have been busy getting the house in Cape ready to sell. The contractor has completed his work, so the house will be on the market in the very near future.

The upside of all of this hard work is that Eddie has been able to donate furniture, appliances, and household goods to others.

Eddie enjoyed a fun filled 4th of July with Todd and his family and Benny and Jan.

He has also been helping some of his neighbors with electrical work and he gets paid with coconut cream pies!

Kerrie has traveled to Austin and Florida. Her Texas family enjoyed lunch with her and hopes that she loved Austin enough to come back soon!

Kerrie has become the proud owner of a beautiful home with a lakeside view! Congratulations!

Todd and Jacob celebrated Jacob's 9th birthday by signing the papers for their new home! That sounds like a great way to celebrate.

Our cousin, Ric Nold, has purchased brick that will be engraved with a remembrance of Susan from the Stray Rescue of St Louis organization. That is a wonderful tribute to a cause that Susan deeply cared about and is much appreciated by the family.

Gary Weston Family:

There have been trips to Hawaii for Nina and Elizabeth to see the latest family addition: Weston Hyatte Bodell. We are all so excited for Brandon and Rachel. His pictures are absolutely adorable.

Brandon and Rachel have been extra busy! Besides adding a precious baby boy to the family, they have also purchased a new home on May 2nd and have already remodeled the upstairs into an apartment to rent. You both are amazing!

Brent, Elizabeth, Dalton, and Carter enjoyed a trip too Disney World.

Benny Weston Family:

Chad and Brittani celebrated their love and commitment in a beach wedding on Saturday, June 11th. The pictures are beautiful and I know that all of us wish we could have shared in their special day.

Benny and Jan stayed in Savannah, Georgia, after the ceremony and enjoyed a few days of vacation.

In early June, Jan, Courtney, Andy, Noah, Emma, Brandon and Megan spent a week in Panama City, Florida. They enjoyed every minute!

Brandon and Megan also have spent time in Virginia this summer with members of Megan's family. That is the best kind of vacation!

Eddie joined Benny and Jan recently for an outing with their church "Home Team" group. Eddie used his new boat to take members on the lake and everyone enjoyed barbecue. Yummy!

In Memory of Susan Adele Ryan Weston

Susan and Eddie engaged 1969
Just married 1970
"Death is nothing at all. It does not count. I have only slipped away into the next room. Nothing has happened. Everything remains exactly as it was. I am I and you are you, and the old life that we lived so fondly together is untouched, unchanged. Whatever we were to each other, that we are still.
Call me by the old familiar name. Speak of me in the easy way which you always used. Put no difference in your tone. Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow. Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes we enjoyed together. Play, smile, think of me, pray for me. Let my name be ever the household word that it always was. Let is be spoken without an effort, without the ghost of a shadow upon it. Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was. There is an absolute and unbroken continuity.
What is this death but a negligible accident? Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight? I am but waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near, just around the corner.
All is well. Nothing is hurt; nothing is lost. One brief moment and all will be as it was before. How we shall laugh at the trouble of parting when we meet again!"

Susan carried this writing of comfort in her billfold for many years. Eddie, Kerrie, and Todd wanted to share this with you.

Picture Day Outfits

Since the majority voted not to have official family reunion tshirts, we need to decide on what we will all wear on Saturday of the reunion, so that we coordinate well for family photos.  With such a large group, I think we need to make it pretty basic so that it is easy for everyone to have.  Based on family photos that we have done in the past, I think navy or white tops with denim or khaki bottoms photographs well.  I have added a poll to see if we'd like to stick with just navy and white, or if we want to have the option of navy, red, or white tops since it will be close to the 4th of July.  Please vote!

FAMILY NEWS!

Kerrie tells us that she is busy these days house hunting! She also has plans to attend a U2 concert in Florida with friends a couple of days after the family reunion. I hope you find the perfect house!

Rachel and Brandon are in the process of buying their home. They will have a lot to do in a short while because their baby is due in less than two months! Nina will be arriving on May 10th, so we are all hoping baby waits until then to arrive!

James and Joanna have had a lot of excitment at their house...two trips to the ER! Madalyn, nearly two, had to have the cut on her forehead "glued" shut because of the
location (to prevent a major scar). And, Jonathan, 8 years, had to have 5 staples in the back of his head because of a fall off the back of the couch. They are seriously considering putting a "bubble" around Olivia, 4 years, just to prevent further trauma!

Suzanne has been caring for a "growing family" these days. Not only do her two male Siamese cats keep her busy, but she is volunteering with a cat rescue organization, Catz Jazz. Suzanne is currently "fostering" an expectant long hair Siamese who is due to have kittens any day now. Does anyone need/want a kitten?

Alicia recently had a photograph of her entered into a photo contest, and out of over 500 entries, placed 3rd!

Edward E. "Jiggs" Weston, bm 2/c, USNC DU #43

World War II...a letter from "Jiggs"

Edward "Jiggs" Weston was one of many local "boys" from Southern Illinois who joined World War II to protect their country and their families from the tyranny, violence and despair that had threatened to forever change the lives and freedoms of the citizens of their world.
At that time, communication was not quick or easy. They did not have e-mail, facebook, cell phones, or even the luxury of expensive long distance phone calls. They could not be connected to their world by television or internet.
To help the community feel included and in touch with their "boys" in the military, letters from those serving overseas were sometimes published in local newspapers.
This letter was published in "The Gazette-Democrat", a newspaper in the Anna-Jonesboro, Illinois area.
The letter was addressed to "Jiggs" friends, Mr. & Mrs. V. Smith from Jonesboro.

Hello Folks: I guess you had about given up the thought of hearing from me again. I have thought of all of my home town friends but today is the first time that I could set down and write you a letter.
I have been back from France a few weeks. It was quite a show. I had the pleasure of seeing it from the very start. I had quite a nice little stay in France but didn't do much looking around. We were always in danger of the snipers taking a crack at us.
France is a very beautiful country, what I saw of it. Almost all of the buildings are old and constructed of rocks and plaster. It has a natural beauty as the people don't trim their hedge rows as the people in England do. The weather was not very good while I was over there but I understand that it is very beautiful most of the time.
We are back in England, standing by and recuperating. I do not have the least idea what we will do next. I have great hopes of seeing you all by fall.
We had a very nice homecoming dance last Saturday. I am enclosing one of the announcements for you to keep for a souvenir.
I have received the Gazette-Democrat regularly lately and it is really good to get the news from home and see what the other boys are doing.
As yet, I have not seen my brother, "Tiny", but the last I heard from him, he seemed to think that he was coming home. I hope so.
I hope all of the boys from home made it out as well as I did. I never got a scratch. We were the first men to touch French soil and it was pretty hot that June morning and it wasn't the weather.
God has taken very good care of me so far and I shall leave my future to Him. He is the one that never deserts anyone.
I hope this letter finds all of your family well. I'm sorry you lost your mother. I remember seeing her the last time I was home.
Give my regards to all of my friends.
One of the boys,
"Jiggs"

Family News

A BIG congratulations to Nina and Dr. Hodge on their wedding!

**********************************************

Because of busy schedules and winter weather, the Weston Family Christmas party was held on January 9th!

Benny and Jan hosted the party at their home in Vienna. Those attending were Eddie and Susan; Dr Hodges and Nina; Rylan, Ashley, Ethan and Ryley; Todd and Jacob; Brent, Elizabeth, Dalton and Carter; Andy, Courtney, Noah, and Emma; Chad, Brittani, and Ellie; and, Brandon and Megan.

We hear that everyone had a great time!

We can all now refer to James as Dr. White!

Joanna has gone back to school to take her last prerequisite for her nursing anesthetist degree, good luck Jo!

Johnny is playing basketball this season an scored 4 points and had over 10 rebound in his last game!

From Nathan and Christina Davila:

Alicia will be performing as a nun in the musical The Sound of Music at her school in a few weeks! Good luck to her!
We like the idea of her being a nun so she can't really start dating when she turns 16 next month (which is the family rule)!!!! Just teasing of course :)

*************************************************

Dalton is doing very well in school and his last report card had 4 A's and 3 B's!! His best subject is math like his mom :) He also has been a very successful hunter this year! He brought back 1 rabbit and 2 squirrels in one trip!

Melinda has earned her Aquatics Facilities Operator's license! She scored very well on her final exam and impressed everyone! :)

FAMILY REUNION UPDATE!

Time has flown! It is now only 5 months until our family reunion!
So, it is time to solidify plans....that means that we will need your help and suggestions!
The first thing that you probably noticed is the poll on the right hand side of the blog. We need to know what you would like to do about family t-shirts. Do you want a family t-shirt or would you rather just choose a family color for everyone to wear?
Christina has been researching prices and we do think that we can get the shirts for about $5 each IF we order at least 30. If we choose the family t-shirt, we will offer you at least three different styles to choose from. Yep, you will get to vote again! :)
The following is our basic reunion outline/schedule:
We will meet at 10am on SATURDAY, June 25th, at the Lake of Egypt.
Eddie and Susan have made arrangements to rent the pavilion and Eddie's boat will be available for family use.
We are planning a family picture at 10:30am. We hope that EVERYONE will be present for that picture! The photographer can offer the option of other family group pictures if we choose, such as cousins, individual families, etc. Benny is checking with a photographer in Marion to see if he is available on that date. If anyone else has a photographer they know that might be interested, let's compare prices and availability. Who wants to be the committee chairman for that?
Eddie and Benny have planned a simple picnic lunch....burgers, brauts, chips, and drinks. It is summer and it will be hot! But, if there is anyone who would like to be in charge of the food committee and have additional items, please let us know.
The afternoon should be full of fun activities and time to "visit" with families members. The only thing that we have planned is family boat rides and games of horseshoes. We would like to ask for two or three family members to be the activities committee and plan a few more games and activities. We will have a lot of children and we need to keep them busy and safe!
Benny is arranging for port-a-potties to be near the pavilion! It seems like Eddie and Benny have thought of nearly everything! :)
We have not planned on a dinner for that day. Because we start at 10am, and the weather may be hot, everyone might be ready for home and the air conditioner by 4 or 5pm. What do you think?
SUNDAY, June 26th
For those who would like to join us, many fmily members are planning to attend the Cairo Baptist Church at 10:30am on Sunday. This is the church that "Jiggs" and Christine attended and we have many memories of weddings and funerals officated by Rev Larry Potts. He is almost part of the family.
For lunch, we will be meeting at Giant City Lodge at 1pm. Eddie and Susan are arranging for us to have the banquet room. We will let you know about the menu and meal prices in the near future.
Eddie, Gary, Benny, and I enjoyed special family dinners there with our parents. Now, we can make more wonderful memories with our larger family! :)
It is only a thirty minute drive from Giant City Lodge to The Lake of Egypt. We will resume our boating and activities for the afternoon.
This is just the basic outline. We are certainly open to any and all suggestions. This is a FAMILY reunion and the more family members involved, the better!
We will be discussing other reunion mementos in next months blog.
In the meanwhile, please let us know what you envision as our family reunion and, as I said, any suggestions are very welcome!
I will see you in June!
